Hi, I am a counsellor who works online with men.
Counselling should help men live a life free to encounter, without fear, the daily surprises life throws at them. I work with an approach that builds on your strengths and focuses on happiness, not depression, the future, not the past. It is an approach that emphasises male values, and fun. My PhD research has revealed that fun is not just about socialising; it’s a potent catalyst for emotional and intellectual growth, with benefits for your personal life and career development.
My work is grounded in three different ways:
Grounded in Experience: Having worked for nearly 20 years as a counsellor in various settings and organisations large and small, I have gained a great deal of practical knowledge to complement my academic knowledge.
Grounded in Research: Everything I do as a counsellor is grounded in academic research. If I can’t explain the theory of why I am doing something or working with a particular focus, then I shouldn’t be doing it!
Grounded in Practice: I live in the real world, which is all messy and complicated. I like to keep it real; my clients want understanding and tools that fit their situation, that work for them and that they can change later if they need to.
While qualifications are not everything, I hold a PhD from the University of Bristol for my thesis on rethinking our understanding of fun in the workplace. My counselling training was also at Bristol in delivering counselling in organisational settings which meant that it was one of the few places in the country that specialised in delivering effective, short-term (less than 10 sessions), counselling.
My approach is simple: We explore what is going on now (your experiences), reflecting on those experiences while trying to understand what is happening. Once we understand what’s going on then we can focus on developing actions and toolkits to help you get unstuck and moving again.
I look forward to working with you.
